About Us

The Credit Union Service Company of Virginia

The Credit Union Service Company of Virginia, LLC was formed in 1993 to address credit unions' need for additional physical branches. By pooling their resources, credit unions were able to lease service facilities in high-traffic areas, which otherwise would be cost-prohibitive. The company now boasts 53 credit union investors; $6.9 million in invested capital; and more than $16 million in assets.

The company currently operates nine shared branches throughout the Commonwealth and has partnered with Virginia Credit Union to offer an outlet branch in Stafford. Fifty-three Virginia-based credit unions participate in the service company, enabling their members to use any of the company's nine Virginia branches as if they were a branch of their own credit union. In addition, credit union members from Virginia can use any of the 2,000-plus service center locations in a 42-state network.

The National Network

The Credit Union Service Center National Network was originally organized by Credit Union State Level Trade Associations, known as Leagues. The Virginia Credit Union League is among those trade associations participating in the Network. Today, the Network touts a robust form of cooperation called "Network Standards".

These standards provide each service center an expansive list of transactions ... far exceeding functionality provided by common ATM networks. Each location was designed to provide a level of service that gives any credit union the ability to expand their products throughout the country. Our Network is committed to the continued growth of those technology standards that allow credit unions to expand their reach with new product offerings and remain convenient.

In June 1993, the Network's first CU Service Center opened its doors in Birmingham, Alabama. One month later the first out-of-state member crossed state lines and visited the Savannah, Georgia Service Center. And to claim a title of a true "National Network" performed our first coast to coast transaction between a Northern California Service Center and our Miami, Florida Service Center in April 1994.

Our Network has grown to facilitate hundreds of Credit Unions serving millions of members across the county. Stay tuned for our new openings in an area near you. And if you’re a frequent user of a CU Service Center, keep an eye out for new services.

Credit Union Service Corporation (CUSC), is the Administrative Network office located in Duluth, Georgia. Owned by State League organizations, CUSC supports all aspects of the Service Center Network to include both existing and future Service Center ventures in a continued effort of providing unparalleled 'Service with a Swirl'.
